Run With Running America
Running America is a documentary film that will follow elite adventurer Charlie Engle (Running The Sahara) and the only person in the world to complete the Triple Crown of Extreme Sports, Marshall Ulrich, on their record breaking run from San Francisco to New York.
Runningamerica08.com is your window into the run — as it's happening. It's been said that at this particular time in history this run is a metaphor for finding the heart and soul of America — and reflects a wish to bring the country together from coast to coast. Others think it's simply an amazing challenge and a feat of sheer determination and willpower.
Whatever your interest — enthusiast, runner, or observer — the Running America community is here. And there's still time to sign up to run a mile with Charlie and Marshall - just click that link. Thanks!
Blog day 4:
Up at 4am today. Stayed in the RV last night, it was a little cozy with the entire crew, much better to stay at the Super 8's. I feel ok today, my energy is down some- this 8500 above sea level is really tough for someone that lives at sea level.
Right now, everyday is a battle, a war being raged and I'm trying to focus on one small segment at a time. I'm still damn funny though. I've lost about 10 pounds so far, so I'm going to be needing to increase my caloric intake.
At the moment, I'm running with Aaron Coe, a 25 year old Grad Student from Portland, Oregon. Aaron said he heard about the run from some friends and it sounded like a really cool thing to do. He's been traveling and figured why not drive down to Nevada and do some running. He's a runner, did it in High School and College, ran a marathon in April- pretty cool having folks like this along.
We continue to encounter really interesting people along the way. We are basically talking to Americans and finding out what's on their minds right now. Despite most of the issues going on with the economy, etc, the level of optimism has been pretty spectacular and I'm frankly surprised. I thought people might take advantage of this opportunity on camera to complain but it really hasn't been the case, very inspiring.
Blog day 3:
One of the hardest days of my entire life. We ran from sea level to over 8500 ft at Carson Pass, near Kirkwood California. Essentially, for every thousand feet you climb, you basically add a mile of distance in effort. I've got a couple blisters and a bit of a problem with my left Achilles, and it made for a long day, especially when climbing like that. We ran yesterday from 4:30 in the morning until 11pm at night, slept at 8500 feet. I live at sea level, so I had a nasty headache and was dehydrated.
